LEGALLY EXEMPT ENROLLMENT SERVICES
The Child Care Council provides assistance and support for legally-exempt (informal) caregivers. Legally-exempt (informal) caregivers provide care for families receiving subsidies and are exempt from the family child care licensing process by caring for no more than two children.
Through funding provided by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, the Child Care Council distributes health and safety grants to legally-exempt caregivers. These grants will be distributed at the time of the 20%inspection visit to new or existing legally exempt providers. The purpose of this grant is to improve the quality of care based on the providers needs as assessed by the Legally Exempt Enrolment Specialist. Grant items will consist of health and safety items, including fire extinguishers/smoke detectors, window guards, electrical outlet covers, first aid kits, cribs, limited educational supplies, as well as training and items / expenditures that are consistent with quality of care. Educational training and continued support is provided in a variety of areas including how to comply with state regulations for administering medications to children in care.
