The Family Centered Child Care Approach
Family centered child care is an approach that supports families by empowering them to access community resources and build partnerships with parents, child care providers and the community. The Family Centered Child Care Approach project is funded by The Schenectady Foundation.

The goal of the Family Centered Child Care Approach Project is to work with one non-for-profit center in Schenectady County and create a supportive network for the optimal development of the child, the family and the teaching staff. The YMCA’s Lally Child Care Center in Scotia was selected to participate in the project from January 1, 2007 until December 31, 2007.

There are five areas of change that are the focus of the project:

  • parent education
  • administration and leadership education
  • child development and curriculum
  • facility improvement
  • health and nutrition education
