Farm to Preschool: Bringing Fresh, Local Fruits and Veggies to Young Children

Food tastings, recipes, children’s games and activities, fresh locally grown fruits and veggies…welcome to the Farm to Preschool Farm Stands!

The Farm to Preschool program aims to increase access to locally grown, fresh fruits and vegetables. The farm stands offer a comfortable, easily accessible location to learn about and sample fruits and vegetables directly from local farmers. The program also helps early educators explore the link between growing and trying new foods through gardening.

Eating habits are formed in early life and Farm to Preschool helps children learn about choosing foods that are good for the body, where their foods come from – even meet and speak to the farmer! -- and allows them to sample and explore different fruits and vegetables. By placing the farm stands right outside the door of the child care program, it’s easy for busy parents to have access to healthier choices.

Two Farm Stands will open this June, one in Albany and one in Schenectady; and will feature the Veggie Mobile from Capital Roots. The stands will be open to the general public. Cash, WIC F/V and WIC FMNP vouchers, SNAP( EBT) cards, Fresh Connect coupons are accepted.
