Children’s Place at the Plaza celebrated the merger with Children’s Corner Day Care Center to expand their resources, programs, and expertise to both locations. The merger took approximately a year to complete, and the end result brings children and families high quality child care programming to two locations in Albany. Poised to serve families with their combination of experience, the goal has been to increase access to high quality care to the area’s families. “We want to bring quality early learning to all that we can,” said Marina Marcou-O’Malley, Chair, Board of Directors, Children’s Place at the Plaza.

The celebration also brought attention to the need for investments in high quality programming in the community, and highlighted the program’s commitment to continual improvement through participation in QUALITYstarsNY. “We are proud to participate in QUALITYstarsNY in our newly merged program,” said Lori Tantakis, Executive Director, Children’s Place at the Plaza. “We are committed to making the program even better.”

The children presented each state representative in attendance with an original piece of artwork to hang in their office. The representatives, NYS Senator, Neil D. Breslin, and NYS Assembly members Patricia Fahy and John T McDonald each affirmed the importance of high quality early learning and their commitment to improving quality for families in New York. Senator Breslin stated, “There’s nothing more important than what you are doing right now, and we will do all in our power to help you.”

“Programs like this one, that we fight for every day in the Assembly and Senate, are critical to helping children grow,” said Assembly member John McDonald. Assembly member Patricia Fahy reiterated the importance of quality in early childhood, “This matters so much – every day it is truly the foundation that makes a difference. It is an investment that pays off forever.”

Led by the children, the celebration ended with a rousing chorus of “If You’re Happy and You Know It,” bringing all in attendance to their feet to clap, sing, stomp, and cheer.

Congratulations to all at the Children’s Place at the Plaza and Children’s Place at State Ed.
