Report to the Community

The Report to the Community (formerly the Annual Report)  highlights the efforts made by the Council over the past 12 months. Presented each year at the Council's Annual Meeting (held the first Wednesday in December), the Report to the Community is accompanied by a visual presentation of the report that can be viewed using PowerPoint.

Picture of Child Care in the Capital Region

Every year, the Council publishes a comprehensive analysis of the supply and demand for child care in the Capital Region. Data is collected directly from child care providers who voluntarily complete a thorough questionnaire regarding child care issues and information. The report details information such as average child care provider wages and benefits, the average cost of child care, and the shortage or surplus of child care in each county. The report is used internally to guide the Council’s activities around child care development, outreach and support. The Picture Of Child Care is also used widely by both the child care and business communities as a tool in decision making.

The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region Project Report

The Capital District Child Care Council’s mission is to improve the quality of care that is offered to the children in our community. The Council accomplishes this goal through many varied activities. But not all of the assistance that the Council offers, especially the intensive training and mentoring over time that really makes a difference in quality, is funded and free to deserving programs. The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region recognized this need and granted funds to the Council to provide technical assistance and professional development opportunities to four after school programs in the city of Albany. The ultimate goal of this intensive training and technical assistance is for all four programs to achieve Accreditation through AfterSchool Works: NY. To this end, the after school staff at each program have been working very closely with the Council staff to improve the programming that is offered to the children. Great strides in quality have been and continue to be made. And all of this would not have been possible without the resources, support and vision of The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region.
